Types of Auras
Well, let's start with what Aura is. Aura, capital A, is the stuff that makes a Mythou a Mythou. The kind of aura with no capital A is in everything else: humans, animals, plants, and even nonliving things. Of course, living things have a slightly different type of aura than nonliving things, and humans' auras are different again from those of plants and animals, but those don't have specific names other than being named after what they belong to - living aura and nonliving aura, and human, animal, and plant aura.
Nonliving aura is the simplest type. Inert, it is found in just about every object you can think of, from stones to ships. Its color, if it were visible, would be a translucent grey, and it has no taste or smell aside from that of the object it belongs to. Barely any Mythou, if any, can sense or interact with this aura because it's so faint.
Living auras are divided into plant, animal, and human auras. Plant auras and animal auras are generally about the same in complexity, and sometimes look so similar as to be almost indistinguishable. Plant auras usually have a green tinge to them, possibly yellow or grayish brown if they're unhealthy, while animal auras are often a rich reddish brown in color, and turn more red when unhealthy. A Mythou might be able to influence, control, or commune with either of these types of auras as one of their abilities.
Human auras are the most complex, aside from the Auras of Mythou. They might be called souls, because a human without an aura is, for all intents and purposes, dead. In actuality, their appearances are signs of what the human's powers will be as a Mythou, as human auras are like blueprints for their Activation, containing the "information" for their Mythou powers. They're just dormant, and without the "energy" that the Mythou aura provides, incapable of using any of their abilities.
Mythou Auras are the most commonly referred to as "aura", and their workings are so varied and complex that they're practically considered a different thing entirely from the rest.
Mythou Auras
Let us consider, first, four examples of Mythou Auras. The first, which belongs to a Mythou named Viridan, is translucent. Deep blue in the center, fading toward the edges, it's speckled with silver, and has the smell and feel of saltwater. Why does it look this way? What parts of this appearance are common for Mythou, and which parts are unique to Viridan or those like her?
Well, first of all, all Mythou's Auras, when connected with their host, follow certain shapes. When mapped out in an Aura map, they're basically circular in appearance. When detected up close, they follow the shape of their host or container, possibly extending past the limits of the host if they are using their Aural powers. (These powers will be explained later; for now we'll stick with appearances. But, for reference, Viridan's powers are a siren song, the ability to transform into a mermaid form, and invisibility.) Viridan's Aura follows the shape of her body and clothing, including her clothing because it disappears when she takes on her mermaid form. All Auras do this, actually, to make fusion possible.
Second, all Mythou's Auras, when connected with their host, are normally either one color in the center which fades toward the edges, or one color in the center and another toward the edge. The colors may softly fade into one another, or have a harsher distinction, like a border of one color surrounding another. Usually, the colors are associated with their host's powers somehow. Viridan's Aura is slightly unusual for its speckles of silver mixed in with the gradation. These speckles are likely representative of her siren song power, which is very rare, possibly even unique among Mythou. The fading and translucency of her Aura likely represents her invisibility power, and the smell and feel of saltwater it has likely represent her transformation ability.
Now let's look at three other Mythou, to compare their Auras to Viridan's.
The second Aura belongs to a Mythou named Freisen. Hot yellow in the center, it fades to a yellow-orange toward the edges. It smells of burning and metal, and feels hot and metallic. Freisen's powers are long, strong teeth and nails, super strength which can be toggled, and laser eyes.
The third belongs to a Mythou named Rhashadon. It is abnormally large, constantly reaching outside of Rhashadon's body, and lavender, fading to sea green at the edges. It smells earthy and viney, and feels like a mass of writhing vines. Rhashadon's powers are plant manipulation and the ability to tie his aura down to an object.
The fourth belongs to a partially activated Mythou named Mescht, and is black and gray, swirled together, with dusty orange spheres rotating around its center point. It feels warm, but open, like space, with the globes feeling more solid, and smells faintly of smoke. Mescht's sole power is the ability to freeze time temporarily.
Most of these Mythou's Auras follow the limits of their body and clothing, as do most Auras, but there are two exceptions. Rhashadon's is extremely large and constantly reaching out because of his plant manipulation ability, which is always ready for use within the area of the Aura. Mescht's Aura is mostly confined to his body, except for the spheres rotating around the center point, which may sometimes swing outside of the rest of his Aura on their path around the center.
As for the colors, feels, and smells of the Auras, these are all dependent on the hosts' abilities as well. Freisen's Aura is hot and metallic because of his ability to summon laser from his eyes, combined with his strong nails, which add to the heat, and super strength, which adds to the metallic quality. Rhashadon's is earthy and viney because of his plant manipulation ability. Lavender is traditionally the color of aura manipulation, which is what his other power is. Mescht's Aura is composed of orbiting globes because of his time-freezing power. When his power is active, these globes are frozen as well. The faint smell of smoke is due to his unrealized power, which he failed to gain when he was partially activated. This power would have been a form of pyrokinesis.
Points of Effect
All Mythou Auras possess points or areas of effect, meaning the parts of someone's body or the areas around them to which their powers are linked. Usually these are their mind, which controls the activation of those powers, and some other part of their body through which those powers manifest: for Viridan's siren song, it'd be her throat/vocal chords; for Freisen's super strength, his entire body; and for his lasers, his eyes. Rhashadon's plant manipulation, as stated before, covers a large area denoted by the extent of his Aura. A few Mythou have points of effect that are in different times - or timelines - entirely. Each point of effect that can be controlled or "read" by the Mythou's mind, including the ability to tell lies from truth and excluding abilities such as Viridan's involuntary mermaid transformation and Draconighli's love-inducing touch, is connected by an Aura thread to the Mythou's mind. Certain Aurasmiths, such as August De Luca, are able to detect and manipulate these threads.
Summons
(Nearly) every aura has a core. Inside the cores of some auras are separate auras, which belong to the "summon" of the main aura container. A "summon" is a construct, usually humanoid, made out of pure Aura mixed with some other element, such as fire, ice, or even shadow. These "summons" only exist in aural form until brought into the physical realm, therefore removing their aura from the core, often weakening the host container. They have will of their own, and memories, and are practically the same as any other aura container except for the fact that as long as their host is still alive, they do not die but instead return into their aura in an aural form. Once the host is dead, however, they are free (if not in aural form) to do as they wish. If in an aural form when the host dies, they become "loose aura" to be collected by the aura recycling system and redistributed, along with the rest of the host's aura.
Aura Recycling and Activation
An ability common to all Mythou (well, not quite all Mythou. Partially Activated Mythou with no powers they can control aren't capable of this, for the simple reason that they can't control their own Aura) is the ability to Activate a human, splitting their Aura in half and giving half to the human. This is made possible by the constant, slow growth of all Mythou Auras. This growth is not really a growth; rather, it's more like a slow redistribution of the Auras left behind by Mythou who have died. The Auras of Mythou do not return to the ground like all other auras. Instead, they are picked up and artificially recycled, kept in the atmosphere(?) and slowly fed out into all existing Aura containers, including not only Mythou but inanimate or artificial Aura containers such as the Terranet Towers, or all active summons (though most aren't active for long enough periods for this to really affect them).
Activation is a delicate process. It's supposed to work straightforwardly, having the Mythou Aura split in half, half going to the human and half staying with the Mythou who Activated them, but there are all sorts of caveats and ways for it to go wrong.
First, the Mythou performing the Activation must have been Activated for at least a century. If not, they will likely die from overextension of their powers, giving up too much of their Aura to Activate the human.
Fusion
Initiating a fusion is another ability common to all Mythou (again, who can control their own Aura).
