04 January, 7000 AGW 10:30am local Sinis time
In the headmaster's room at the Lux Cantatio, the enormous conservatory in the center of Deep, Lys sits at his desk with a freshly-poured cup of tea, while pouring over administrative documents scattered across the surface of his rather expansive (and expensive) desk. Soft, relaxing music emanates from a music player set in the wall, which is much newer than most of the furnishings in this office. His quiet reverie is interrupted by his mirror-twin's arrival, who drapes his arms over Lys's shoulders and inspects the documents with disinterest. Sighing, Lys closes his eyes, already knowing what the conversation will entail. "I'm bored," sighs Xander, now gently wrapping his arms around Lys's neck, "let's go do something." Shooting Xander an annoyed yet patient glare, Lys adjusts his glasses (his usual habit when nervous or bothered) and rebuffs him politely. "I cannot and you know that. I have business to attend. Perhaps later I can indulge you." "Can't be arsed to wait that long," Xander yawns, pushing himself up and stretching his arms over his head, "maybe I'll just go and mingle with-" "No flirting or physical encounters with any of my students or staff," replies Lys, not looking up, yet again already knowing the look that Xander was giving him, "if you are really desperate for such attention there are places in town where you can negotiate it for a reasonable sum." Groaning, Xander drops into the plush chair on the opposite side of the desk and puts his boots up on it, ankles crossed, grinning at the look of displeasure on Lys's face. "That's even less fun. It's all about the chase and conquest! Besides, I was more in the mood for a treasure hunt or something, or getting into trouble. It's been quiet here, you need some excitement." Sighing again, Lys puts down his cup of tea and his face in his hands. "All I want to do is run a school for music and magic, with the largest library in the world. That shouldn't be too much to ask..."

It has been...seven thousand years now. Give or take a few thousand if you count the odd encounter, of course, since he has been in direct contact with civilization. Of course, the odd encounter with a wanderer happened, but they never realized who he was. Now, he has learned of this school, a place he himself would very much approve of, a school of learning and music, and arts. Tidus looks up at the building as he slowly approaches, walking, his big black bow set on his back, and walks up to the doors, and knocks, two simple, solid, confident raps.
He takes a breath as he waits.
Why?
Because this man, on the doorstep, was supposedly dead for the past seven and a half thousand years.
And that is about to change.

Lys glances over at Xander, who is attempting levitation magic to pour himself a cup of tea, doing so with his ever-present smart-assed grin. Looking up at the door Lys offers the invite to "enter" and sighs once more. "You'd be better at that sort of thing if you ever bothered to take classes here. How in the name of the AllSong are you my copy but never learned simple cantrips?" "Oh, I know all of your spells already, I'm just trying this one a bit differently this time." "...I don't want to know..."

Well. Let it begin. He breathes in, and pushes the door open gently, looking around the room, surveying what it looks like with his steel grey eyes, stopping for a moment in Xander in disapproval, not shown in his features yet. He can tell what that one is doing. Magic. Magic isn't for regular, everyday use at all.
But this isn't the time yet. He's making his entrance upon the world. So he opens his mouth, and says, "good morning. I believe this is a school of music?"

Xander looks over his shoulder at the newcomer and stands up with fluid grace, sipping his tea and examining the music player. With a broad smile of joy, Lys welcomes the stranger in and gestures to the now-vacated chair. "Yes, it is, in addition to one of magical and mundane studies. Please, be seated, and tell me of yourself and your needs. I am Lysander, Lys if you please," he pauses to chuckle at his own bon mot, which Xander snorts at, "and I am headmaster and founder of this place. The scruffy miscreant present is my...twin...Xander. Would you care for a cup of tea? It is oolong, and freshly steeped."

"Yes thank you. I have had a long journey which has taken...many days" best not to say that it's taken over seven thousand years worth of them at the start, he thinks. "It is a pleasure to meet you both. I am Tidus."

Lys's smile brightens as he pours a cup and sets it on the desk in front of his guest. "Ah! By all means, Tidus, sit and be comfortable. Please, tell me of your journey and the nature of your visit. Do you desire the opportunity to study one of the myriad subjects that are taught? Perhaps you seek knowledge and research in our library. If it is within my power and the capacity of this conservatory I will do what I can to make it happen." Xander is poking idly at a few settings on the music player, and though he hasn't changed anything, Lys still shoots him a warning glance that Xander makes no effort to hide that he is ignoring.

Tidus sits down, watching Xander silently before speaking.
"I do not need anything. I have had time to learn all that I need to. As for what you can do...I'm not sure. But seven thousand years since the war. And I've been getting a feeling that something is coming. So I came to civilization. Here. Where music is."

The smile fades from Lys's face and is replaced with somber determination, an unusual expression for him. Putting down his cup, he rests his elbows on his desk and his chin on his folded hands, watching Tidus with a focused intensity that is not often seen on him. Xander still wears his slightly bored air as he crosses the room to examine something on the bookshelf, but his hand is now on the hilt of the rapier on his right hip. Glancing over at him, Lys is unable to hide the small flicker of smile, making a gesture that Tidus can't understand, but Xander seems to relax a bit, though he still lazily rests his hand on his sword. Lys turns back to his guest and fixes his warm, golden gaze on him, listening and watching. "This is...concerning. I have long endeavored to distance myself from the politics of this world, in the desire to create a safe haven for knowledge and learning, but it seems that conflict has sought me out. Be you harbinger or messenger? You seek music. What is the purpose for this quest?"

"Neither harbinger or messenger. I am here because I too appreciate safety and musical qualities, but if anything big happens with this coming year...safety cannot be isolated to one point. It must move to save those who are in the greatest of needs." And he sits forward at the end of all this, returning Lys' gaze with his own level, blank stare.

Still not assuaged, but no longer concerned, Lys reclines back in his chair and stares off at a nondescript point in the room, tapping the fingers of one hand softly on the desk top as he thinks. Xander still wears his strange duality of relaxed alertness, and Lys senses this from behind himself as his twin examines the tea cupboard. "Xander, it is alright, there is no malice in his motives." Without any direct, visible change, Xander releases the air of readiness he'd been holding and sits down in one of the same plush chairs in front of the desk, pouring another cup of tea. He shakes it with a small motion of his wrist and stands up for a second time. "Just finished that pot. I'll start another." There no longer is any wariness to his actions, and he moves with a languid, catlike grace as he strides to the kitchenette to rinse the teapot. "Got a preference?" he asks, directing the question at Tidus as he fills it with near-boiling water and returns to the tea cupboard. Lys finishes whatever thought he'd been mulling over and folds his hands across his midriff, one leg crossed over the other, peering at Tidus over the top of his gold half-rimmed glasses with a businesslike manner. "Please, guests always have the choice of a fresh batch. If you have a preference we will be pleased to make it. As to your premonition... Though I value impartiality and neutrality in my dealings with the rest of the world I am not naive enough to believe that others will do the same. I despise fighting and conflict, but will not passively stand by while all that I have worked to create is shattered and scattered. You bring to us a problem, yet you also appear to be possessed of a solution. I would hear it."

Tidus pulls out a small leather pouch which he tosses to Xander, containing tea. "My own special blend of Da-Hong Pao. Try not to use all of it up, it is rather difficult to gather everything in it." He turns his attention back to Lys, "I should think my solution obvious by now. If the spark of conflict ignites, you will have to move about, helping those who cannot make it to safety on their own. Working for peace, not necessarily victory. Because peace is the only victory we can have as musicians."

Eyebrows raised, Xander peers into the pouch and whistles, impressed. "You've got excellent taste. I've not had this in, well, I never have, but I have Lys's memories of it. No worries, I know what I'm doing, and I know just how much to use." He carefully measures out the correct amount into the pot and returns with it in one hand and the pouch in the other. He returns the pouch carefully and notices that Lys now looks distant and withdrawn as he once more stares off at nothing in particular. "Evil triumphs when good people do nothing. I am not a pacifist in that I refuse to fight, it is that I will not begin a conflict, and I will do my utmost to avoid participating. However, I will not stand idly by when those who cannot fight are hurt and the light of knowledge might be snuffed out. Despite this..." Setting the pot on a spot on the desk that had been designated for it, Xander moves over to Lys, with the lightest touch on his shoulder. Lys doesn't say anything, only brushing Xander's fingers in a similar manner, but still appears somehow reassured. "Very well. You have my- our pledge to assist if and how we can. That said, there is much to be done should we need to depart. I must delegate the running of this conservatory to another, as well as find someone to mind our home, in addition to-" At another touch from Xander, Lys smiles and nods, and he once again takes his chair again, picking up his tea. "Relax, mate. You're brilliant and planned for all of that ages ago. Just have a look at what you put in place and see if anything needs to be updated. You accounted for everything. If I remember then I know that you do, too. Besides, you're not alone this time, you've got me." Trying to be gruff, Lys is unable to hide a grateful smile. "I fail to see how someone bothering me all of the time will be of use." Xander returns it with a cheeky grin as he drains the last of his tea. "At least you won't be bored."

Tidus frowns slowly... "Boredom is good. It means there is no conflict. That said, I appreciate your pledge." He sits back in his chair closing his eyes. "Do you have a vacant room which I could occupy?"

Lys nods and puts down his tea. "That we do. There are dormitories if your stay will be lengthy, but for the moment I will offer you one of our short-term private rooms. It is not quite as luxurious, but given your journey it should suit your needs for the time being. Xander?" The other man nods, finishes his tea, and stands up, stretching his arms over his head and wings behind himself. "Right, this way, when you're ready." Lys has found his smile again and stands up respectfully. "I wish that you had arrived under better circumstances, but I am glad to know of this sooner rather than later. May you find the rest you need."

"I will take whatever you choose to give me. I don't think we will have long to wait." He stands up, and nods.

Thumbs hooked in his belt loops, Xander strolls out of the room and walks with a fluid, easygoing stride down the wide, ornately yet tastefully decorated hallway. He passes a couple of staff members as they walk, exchanging polite nods as they do so. He turns at a particular intersection, whose decor changes slightly. "The private rooms are this way. Dorms are for students, and they're a bit more furnished, but these still have their own facilities to wash up and whatnot, so you'll have total privacy. There's a map on the writing desk, feel free to take it with you, it'll show you where everything is, and if you need something just ask anyone wearing a pin on their left lapel, whatever it is. They're staff or instructors and know everything. If you're hungry the dining hall is also in this direction, but you sound tired more than anything." He arrives at a room, taps a pattern on the face of the flat, glass panel above the lock, and gestures to Tidus. "Put your thumb here, on this plate. I've got you authorization for a week, and only you or someone with admin rights can get in. Oh, and one last thing," he fixes Tidus with a very dangerous, dark stare, "he does need to get out and about more, but I know why he prefers to hole up here, and this shit is why. I'm just a mirror-copy, but damn if I'm gonna let him get hurt again. We'll help you on your journey to stop this war, but if something goes wrong, I'm bringing him home and all of you bastards are on your own."
Back in his office, Lys has set aside the previous paperwork and is now tapping on a tablet, an expression of grim determination on his normally-soft features. "Xander is right, I do need to get out, and I have made preparations for this already, it is just a matter of activating and implementing everything." Setting down the tablet with a sigh, he pauses in reaching for his tea, lost in memories. "Not again. I won't let it end like that again..."

Tidus watches and then carefully places his thumb on the plate as instructed. "How does this work? What powers it?" They had better not... well. He'll explain that later. "Tired..." He turns to stare them in the eyes, his cold Steel grey ones boring into them. "Tired is not something I feel at this time. I can provide food for myself as needed, thank you though. " And then... he gives Xander an odd look... "Mirror walkers." And with that, he bows his head, pushing the door open. He knows something more on that front. And he isn't going to talk about it.
"Incidentally." He pauses again, his face blank. "I'm not a bastard. I'm far worse. I have no parents. I never did. I'm a first generation human."

Curiously, Xander seems amused by this, showing a broad, fanged grin. "Hunh, not met one of you before. You're feisty, I respect that. And to answer your question, it's a fingerprint scanner, standard tech, nothing fancy. Well, I don't give a damn what it is you need to do, as long as it doesn't cause trouble. If you have trouble just pop back to our office and have a knock. If we're not in then there'll be a sign up. If it's an emergency, well, odds are the staff will have notified us and we'll be on our way back. Cheers, mate." He heads back the way they came, his walk a bored, casual swagger.
He returns to the office, closing the door behind himself, and pauses in front of the desk. Lys hasn't noticed his return, still lost in thought, the fingers of one hand tapping softly on the desk top as he rests his chin on the back of his other hand and elbow on the arm of the chair. "Oy, mate." The other Mythou looks up in surprise, blinks, and nods. Xander walks around the desk to sit on top of it, putting a soft hand on the one that is rapping out a restless beat. "It won't end like last time. I'm here now." Nodding, Lys squeezes his hand in thanks and finally makes it to his tea. "You are. And perhaps you will be able to do what I cannot."

Tidus walks into his room, looking around it...it really isn't furnished that much. Like a standard hotel room. Good. He'll sleep on the floor tonight. He sets his bow on the bed, putting the lance-sized arrows beside it...setting his small harp down on the desk, making note of the map...he won't use that though. He doesn't need a map. And goes to look in the mirror...well...the room behind him looks nice anyway. He knew he shouldn't expect anything. It's been that way for...he should probably keep better track of time. He sits down on the floor, and begins planning... what the hell is a fingerprint scanner powered by? He should have asked.
