Lys stares at Tidus with open confusion, while Xander is wearing a grin of befuddled amusement. "You know, I've waited years for someone to say that, and now that it's happened I'm not quite sure what to do." He looks over at Lys and offers the cheeky, fanged grin. "I know you go on and on about 'no fighting in the Lux,' but I think that this one time I'm allowed to get away with it." With a huff of a chuckle, Lys finds the quirk of a smile and nods. "Very well. Do as he asks. I do admit curiosity myself." He takes Xander's cup as the other man steps around the desk and draws his weapon, left-handed. "As you said, here goes. Don't break the sword, though, it's a matched set to his and I'd be quite cross if something happened to it." With a stylized fencer's stance, he slices with the rapier, intending to simply open a gash on one arm, not quite certain what the other person has in mind and is being careful just in case.

Tidus bows his head as the sword hits... and it's as if Xander has tried to cut open a marble statue, nothing happens to Tidus, and the blow slides right on off, with a slight jar as it impacts him. "Unscathed. Only at night, but still. There you have it." He looks at Xander. "Thank you."

Examining the edge of his blade, the grin widens as he laughs. "Cor, you're proper impenetrable. That'll be useful." He sheaths the sword and returns to the other side of the desk, crossing his arms and looking quite amused. Lys stands and offers a hand to Tidus. "You have our resources at your disposal. If you are amenable to it, I would add you to the ranks of Yggdrasil, directly under Xander and myself, beholden to no others."

Tidus bows his head, before slowly standing up and taking Lys' hand. "I should consider it an honor. You'll have to explain more about what it is though."

He smiles warmly, and Xander picks up his tablet, tapping its screen, then opens a desk drawer to retrieve another to set it atop the desk, typing swiftly as he gets it set up. "Welcome to Yggdrasil, Heimdall. I am Odin, and Loki will brief you." The tablet's screen flickers, and Xander nods to himself as he hands it to Tidus. "This will answer most of your questions and provide you access to all of the information that we have, in addition to the informants, known as Ravens. You are registered as 'Heimdall,' and will be referred to as such by anyone within the organization. There's no set 'position' or duties assigned to you as of yet, we'll take care of that later. First of all, we're not warriors, we're peacemakers. Or, at least, that was the original intent. Our lone enforcer is Fenrir, and you may be familiar with her and her work. She should be in Pax tomorrow. Otherwise, we mostly keep tabs on everyone and everything of note and interest, trying to provide lines of communication between cities and factions in order to preserve peace in Sinis."

"Interesting..." Tidus' eyes flicker over the tablet. "Only one problem." He looks up at Lys. "I have no idea how this thing works, this is entirely new for me, I've been isolated, remember?"

Lys blushes deeply, realizing that he has potentially offended his guest, and stammers an apology before Xander cuffs him on the arm. "Relax, mate, not a lot of people know how these work. It's funny what you get used to. C'mon, have a seat, I'll show you how this works. It's a book and communication device in one. I can send messages instantly to anyone else who has one of these, as well as make notes or pull up books that we have stored in them." He proceeds to tutor Tidus on the device's use, patiently and eagerly answering questions. Lys has returned to his chair behind the desk and is doing paperwork, same as he was before Tidus entered, listening to see if his attention is needed but otherwise lets the two of them converse.

Tidus listens attentively, and is a quick and sharp learner on how to use it...but he mostly is interested in how the tablet works, not so much on how to work it. He slowly strokes his temples as he gets more and more in depth, and finally... "So how do I teach it to do new things?"

Xander laughs, rubbing the back of his neck. "Soz, there's a lot to explain so I missed a few of the basics. You've got a few ways to add new stuff. You can create a new file by going here, here, and clicking here, or you can import a file from the network by browsing here, and you can also-" He pauses to look up, noticing that he hasn't heard anything from the other side of the desk in a bit. Lys has his head on his arms, folded atop a small pile of papers, completely asleep. "Not surprised, he was up earlier than I was and it's been a busy day. 'Scuse me a moment." He walks around the desk and, somehow without waking Lys, picks him up out of the chair, goes to the bookshelf against the back wall, brushes part of the wall with his shoulder, and a hidden door opens, into which he disappears.

Tidus sits back, waiting for Xander to return, and when he does, "what if there isn't a button that does what I want it to? Can I make my own?"

Xander returns in a moment, minus his companion, and the door slides back into place. "He really does work himself too hard. Right then, this isn't a 'living' thing, it's Auratech, so I'll explain what I can, but even I'm not sure how some of this works." He rubs the back of his neck again as he sits down. "These are a tad limited, to be honest. They're primarily used for communications and data storage, and aren't directly linked together, they communicate with a central..." Trailing off as he thinks, he finds the word he's looking for. "Server. Think of that as the Lux, with all of the books and things it has, and these tablets are devices that can access almost anything here at once. If you want to learn to code new things you're honestly going to need to get lessons from Spire, as that'll require something called a 'computer,' which is much more powerful and versatile than these. We've only got the one here, the Spirans are kinda stingy about that, but I don't blame 'em. You'll also need a lot of time and practice to get to learn how to 'speak' in machine-language. I think our good Lord Eshevri owes us a favor somewhere, we'll have to see if we can get you over there to learn. Besides, it'll be nice having our own in-house coder, there's more we want to do but haven't had the time or energy to learn to do it ourselves."

Tidus frowns and carefully, slowly turns the tablet over and around in his hands... "So you don't know how these...work?" He frowns...that's slightly wrong...not knowing how something works...but then again... he sighs. Then again people don't have instructions either, do they? "...I do not know if I have the time to invest in learning to modify these if they speak their own language."

"Neither do I," remarks Xander, sighing again, "and I wish I did, but I'm so damn busy I don't have the time or energy. We really need to have someone to do that for us, but these days it seems like you can only trust family, and..." He trails off as he considers something, then his gaze shifts to the hidden door where he'd gone moments earlier before he shakes his head. "We'll figure out something else. Gah, I'm getting fuzzy, it's bloody well late and I've been chasing messages and crises all damn day, I'm not gonna be much use to you until I've had some sleep and a cup of coffee." He rubs his eyes wearily, very closely resembling his companion with the gesture.

Tidus nods, turning the tablet over and around in his hands carefully. "I'll leave in a few minutes so you can rest then... What does this run on? Or I should say, what powers it?"

Going around to the other side of the desk, Xander reaches into the drawer again and pulls out a strange object; blocky at one end with prongs coming out, and a long cable out of the other, and hands it to Tidus. "You'll need this, it's a charger. It runs off of electricity. See that indicator in the corner there? It shows you how much power you have left. This end goes into the device right, there, and the other end plugs into the wall, like one of those places." He gestures to a power outlet on the wall. "All rooms have a few of those. Also, since you're going to be here a while, we'll get you set up with a proper permanent room. You're in one of the temporary guest ones, and I figure you'll want one that you can alter to your personal specs. Also, the permanent rooms have a secure connection to the network. You can access most stuff from the one you're in now, but for the really secret bits you'll need a room with greater authorization. Like this one, you can get to any data in here." He stuffs a fist in his mouth to stifle a yawn, somehow managing to not nick himself on his fangs. "Gah, soz again. I'm a rubbish host. Lys is much better at that, as well as explaining all of those devices. I mean, I know, but I'm crap at explaining. Drop on in tomorrow morning whenever you want. If we're up the sign on the door will show that we're available. Lys usually rises with the sun, though, so he at least should be available."

Tidus nods. "Thank you...and do all cities have these...wall insert points where I can...recharge this?" holding up the tablet.

"Anywhere in Deep, and Spire does for certain. We got our tech from them, so everything we have is compatible with theirs. Other cities...it depends. When you head out we'll equip you with a portable charging device that will let you keep it going while out in the field. Should something happen to it just contact a Raven in any city and they should be able to get you a replacement. These things are crucial to our operations, so we're good at swapping out inoperable devices quickly. Also, I nearly forgot, you'll want to 'lock' it to yourself, so only you can use it. Once you do that the only person who can access it without your permission are Lys and myself. ...And maybe Fenrir, but that's a different story." He demonstrates how to secure the device to only "unlock" for Tidus, and makes him repeat the process a couple of times to ensure that he knows how it works.

"Why do I need to lock it though?" Tidus tilts his head, smiling slightly at him.

"To be honest? Security. Yggdrasil is pretty open with a lot of its information, but that depends on its sensitivity and who it's about. There's quite a bit of stuff that goes from the Ravens to Ratatosk, to me, and straight into the archives. Info that needs to be recorded and stored, but could be dangerous or damaging in the wrong hands. You need specific codes and passwords to access anything beyond 'basic' permissions, but there is still concern that anyone with open access to a device could still find a way to crack our security. Call us paranoid all you want, but you've been out there traveling, and you've heard what's going on down in Akra and Pax. We'd rather be paranoid bastards than get innocent people hurt."

Tidus nods, and stands up. "Alright, thank you, Xander. Goodnight." And he moves for the door, and heads out to his own room, once again refusing to use the bed, sleeping on the floor.
